Dover Community Radio
Repositioning a local station with a confident new identity (DCR) and a custom-built digital hub for live broadcasting and community events.
The Challenge
Dover Community Radio had passionate presenters and a loyal listenership across FM, DAB, and online. However, their brand identity leaned too heavily on the word 'community', unintentionally suggesting an amateur operation rather than a serious broadcaster.
The Breaking Point
"The problem wasn't credibility. It was perception. The brand needed to catch up with the quality of the broadcasting."
Amateur Perception
The name and visual identity suggested a hobbyist project, masking the station's professional quality.
Outdated Visuals
Lacked high-resolution assets for print or events, making professional promotion difficult.
Digital Disconnect
The old website didn't serve as a central hub for the station's three broadcast channels (FM, DAB, Online).
No Live Context
Listeners couldn't easily see who was on air, what was playing, or find upcoming shows.
From Community Radio to DCR.
We didn't abandon the community roots; we reframed them. We shifted the public-facing identity to the sharper, more confident DCR.
We then built a custom website that acts as a dual-purpose platform: a live broadcasting engine for listeners and a centralized hub for local events and presenter profiles.
Identity Refresh
A cleaner, confident visual system and logo designed to work across digital and print.
Live Broadcast Hub
Homepage hero featuring real-time status: Who's on air, what's playing, and instant 'Listen Live' access.
Community Engine
A robust events listing system with smart filtering for 'Today', 'This Week', and 'This Month'.
Technologies Used
A Station for the Future
DCR now has a brand and platform that matches the professional standard of its broadcasting.
Brand Confidence
Repositioned as an established, professional station that feels future-facing while staying true to its roots.
Live Integration
Seamless integration of live streaming status, connecting listeners instantly to the broadcast.
Community Hub
Actively supports presenters and local events, becoming a digital home for the town.
Multi-Platform
A single, cohesive digital presence that unites their FM, DAB, and Online audiences.
Live and Local
A functional interface for real-time radio.
The design centers around the 'On Air' experience. We built a dynamic interface that ensures the most important information—what's playing right now—is always accessible, while surrounding it with rich content about the presenters and the local area.
This wasn't about making something flashy. It was about helping a great local project own its value and present itself with confidence.
