Google AdWords is one of the quickest ways to start driving traffic to your website π it’s also a fast way to blow a bundle of cash π§ These tips will help you get a start πͺππ
π Do your Research
1. Research the phrases people use to find products like yours to start with I suggest you only bid on those that show ‘buyer intent’, try and avoid informational searches and broad searches, someone searching for ‘hair & beauty courses’ is not ready to book on a course someone searching βUV Gel Nail Coursesββ is more likely
2. Competitor research Once you have chosen some phrases go to Google and enter the search terms you are going to bid on, look at the results, what do their ads say, what don’t they say, how could yours be better. Click the add and look at the page they are driving traffic to, is it relevant to what you are looking for? is it their home page? a product page? a special offer page? does it answer the phrase you searched? clicks that go through to anything other than a page directly answering what you searched for signal opportunity for you, if your competition is not answering the search query well then you can profit.
π Keep it simple
Make a campaign for each product or service and each location – Adwords can be hard to manage, more so if you have campaigns bidding on 100’s of different, maybe unrelated phrases, make your campaigns small, say 6 phrases targeting 1 product or service, this will allow you to stay in control, to easily see what is working, what’s not, and will allow you to be hyper-specific with your ad copy π
π Keep it relevant
Send your visitors to a Landing Page that is just about the search query, you have just 5 seconds to hook your visitor in if they don’t see what they came for they will click off your site and you’ve wasted your budget π± Your landing page should be succinct and to the point, talk about the problem you solve, present your product or service, show something of your process, display proof, be it reviews, case studies or supporting content and it should have a call to action – what is the action you want the user to take to progress their interest in your product or service. If there is one action you want them to take, donβt give them loads of choices to make, I suggest just 2 ‘buy now’ ‘ask us a question’.
π Stay in Control
Google will make regular suggestions to improve your account, some are good, some will eat your budget, if you don’t review these, and either cancel or approve, after a set time the changes will be automatically applied. You should regularly monitor your account, check what phrases are driving traffic, which adverts are working, what’s not, test new adverts, add new phrases & pause phrases you no longer wish to bid for.
Google Adwords is an amazing, feature-packed platform, set up correctly it can drive high quality, relevant traffic. Drive enough of this traffic and you should see conversions. You don’t need to be bidding for 100’s of phrases to see some success unless your budget is huge.
Google AdWords is ideal for businesses that have products or services that are high ticket value or have high-profit margins.
